Today, I’d like to introduce you to a fun blog I wrote about our intrepid leader, Nonnie Jules. At the end, I will provide you with a link to introduce by books and their trailers.

Encounter at ArcAngel Park

The first in a series of character interviews conducted by Nonnie Jules, President of Rave Reviews Book Club who has been magically transported 700 years into the future to the planet Genesis, accompanied by author, John Fioravanti.

Nonnie Jules is the founder and President of RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB, as well as interviewer of RRBC authors in the famed, “Who’s On The Shelf With Nonnie?” interviews. Her interviewing skills are legendary and she decided to accompany Author, John Fioravanti, through space and time to another galaxy 700 years into the future. Nonnie’s goal is to meet the key personalities on planet Genesis featured in Fioravanti’s series, The Genesis Saga, and utilize her formidable skills to find out something more about these characters. This scene is the first of many, which will follow.

Setting: Nonnie and John are seated comfortably in her office at RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB.

John:     “Thank you, Nonnie for inviting me to join you here today!”

Nonnie:     “You’re welcome!” (Thinking: where are these people I’m supposed to interview?) “I’d like to know how this is going to work… I don’t see anybody else around here to talk to…” (John smiles politely, Nonnie shakes her head) “… alright, I’ll start with you, John! Why did the people of Genesis have to make big changes in their society?”

John:     “After more than 700 years of acrimony between the ruling Churcher class and the Naval class, big  changes were needed to stave off violence and the ultimate destruction of human civilization on Genesis.”

Nonnie:     “Sounds grim… what changes do they want to make… and WHO’s directing traffic?”

John:     “For now, High Chancellor Harvey Bingham is, umm… ‘directing traffic’. During the war of the last four years, he brought in measures to begin the desegregation of the urban centers…” 

Nonnie:     (interrupting and glaring at John)  “They segregate the races there?”

John:     “Actually… no. The discrimination is based on religious differences. Right now, the High Chancellor is  running the planet’s first democratic election!”

Nonnie:     (incredulously) “Democracy!! A religious dictator is setting up a democracy? John, this is unbelievable – I wish I could talk to this man!”

John:     (Nods gravely, reaches out and places his left hand upon her arm, closes his eyes in concentration… and the two find themselves sitting on a bench in a beautiful park.) “Your wish is my command!” (He gestures to the beautiful shrubbery that surrounds them.)

Nonnie:     (Nonnie stands up and takes a step away, then spins around and glares accusingly at her guest)  “John, where are we?”

John:     “Calm yourself, dear lady. We’re in ArcAngel Park in Genesis City, and the year is 2796. You said you wanted to talk to High Chancellor Bingham.” (Nonnie’s jaw drops, but she’s speechless.) “Look to your right, here he comes now.” (Nonnie spins around and sees a balding, middle-aged man dressed in a crimson suit approaching along the stone walk. John stands and takes her arm to steady her. Bingham reaches them and holds out his hand to John who takes it in a warm handshake.) “Good day, High Chancellor! Allow me to present a good friend, Nonnie Jules.”

Bingham:     (Bows respectfully to Nonnie) “Welcome to my favourite refuge, ArcAngel Park! You know, it was built so the faithful could enjoy the natural gifts of the Gods in peaceful splendour.”

Nonnie:     (Nonnie is beginning to calm down, and looks from one man to the other, then addresses the cleric.) “Excuse me, Reverend, how do you know my friend John?”

Bingham:     (Bingham smiles at John, then addresses Nonnie, kindly.) “Madam, this man beside you is known to us here as Doctor John – an expert in human history from twenty-first century Earth. Is that where you’re from as well?” (Smiles kindly at John) “He’s either delusional, or in possession of great technology. Either way, he is a good soul, so we welcome him.”

Nonnie:      “I need to sit down!” (She resumes her seat on the bench and both men sit on either side of her. She looks at John sternly) “We’ll talk later!” (She turns to Bingham) “Doctor John tells me you’re having an election here. Why? You have absolute control of the government now – you can do anything you want! Why mess with that?”

Bingham:     (Bingham smiles at her brash speech.) “Madam, I find you delightfully refreshing! Simply put, I believe it is the will of the Gods as revealed to me through the Earthers.”

Nonnie:     (Pauses, glances at John, and then locks eyes with Bingham) “Alright, I won’t question your beliefs, but tell me, why do you think this democracy will work to save your society from mayhem?”

Bingham:     “Mayhem…” (pauses and frowns thoughtfully) “that’s an apt word to use. First, I tire of governing alone and dealing with the opponents of reform. I need a strong leader, chosen by the people and blessed by the Gods, to help me finish the job.”

Nonnie:     “I don’t suppose you have anyone in mind for that job…”

Bingham:     “But of course, Madam! ArcGeneral Liz Hastings is the only person for this sacred task!”

Nonnie:     “A woman! Really?” (Nonnie glances at John with an astonished look before turning back to Harvey Bingham)  “I was told that your church doesn’t approve of women in leadership roles.”

Bingham:     “Elizabeth Hastings is no ordinary woman… she is my candidate for President!”

Nonnie:     (Looks at the cleric with approval in her eyes) “Well, I just have to meet this woman. John, do you…

John:     (Lays his left hand on Nonnie’s arm) “As you wish…”

I wrote this piece of fiction with Nonnie’s permission and she enjoyed the finished product. I went on to pen twenty more of these interviews on planet Genesis. I hope you enjoyed it too!

I have two published novels in my science fiction series, The Genesis Saga, Book 1 is Passion & Struggle, and Book 2 is Treachery & Triumph. Humanity abandoned Earth in the late 21st Century and travelled for 95 years to found a new civilisation on the tropical planet, Genesis. My books pick up their story some 600 years after they arrived at Genesis.

With her permission, I wrote a series of 21 character interviews featuring our club President, Nonnie Jules, as the main interviewer. Possessing great powers (who says I can’t write fantasy!) I whisked the two of us from planet Earth to Genesis, 700 years into the future. Nonnie met the main characters of the first two books of The Genesis Saga on their own turf. Yes, she found the trips a bit unsettling (who wouldn’t?) but she adapted well and earned the respect of each character she met. What follows below is the 21st and final episode originally titled: How Far Will You Go To Fulfil Your Duty? Nonnie is interviewing the main character, Vice President, Marco Rossini. In our last episode, Dr John introduced Author, Nonnie Jules to the big Irishman, ArcGeneral Pat Conroy, who grew up with Marco Rossini in Darymanis City. The two hit it off immediately and enjoyed chatting about Marco’s return from a near-fatal injury. Today, Nonnie finishes up her Treachery & Triumph Tour on Genesis with a visit to Vice President Marco Rossini’s home on the University of Genesis City campus. They have met before and established a warm rapport. She needs to know how he plans to carry out his duty.

(Nonnie and John appear at Marco’s front door where they are greeted by Agent, James Drury. Nonnie has made it clear to John that she must get home after she sees Marco.)

Drury: (Approaches them from behind as they stand before the front door.) “Good afternoon, do you have business here… ” (They turn to face him, and he immediately recognises John) “Hello, Dr John! Does the Vice President know you’re visiting today?”

John: “Good to see you, James. No, but he did ask me to bring Mrs Jules by for a visit the next time she was in town.”

Drury: (Smiles and nods respectfully to Nonnie, and then speaks into his comm unit.) “He asked me to show you inside. Please follow me – I’ll take you to the living room where you can make yourself at home.”

(Once inside, Nonnie and John take seats in two comfortable chairs surrounding a coffee table, and Drury excuses himself.)

Nonnie: (Eyes John carefully.) “You know, the people around here – well, everybody knows you and clearly hold you in great respect… how did you manage that?”

(John winks at her but his reply is cut off as Marco strides into the room with delight written all over his face. He goes to Nonnie first and gives her a warm hug when she stands to greet him. They exchange pleasantries for a moment and then Marco greets John warmly as well. Marco takes a seat in the lone empty chair in the setting.)

Marco: “This is such a delightful surprise! I finished at the office early today to come home and work out with Ted… but I’d rather chat with you two for a while.”

Nonnie: “You look better than ever after your tragic injuries. How do you feel?”

Marco: “Nonnie, you’re too kind. Physically, I’ve never felt better in my life…”

Nonnie: “Please forgive me for interrupting, Marco, but I’m not being kind. I don’t sugarcoat my truth and I don’t pull any punches…”

Marco: (holding up his hands grinning) “Okay, okay… you have the job. You can start on my security team tomorrow!”

Nonnie: (Smiles and nods to John) “You’re quick, Marco, and I just love smart men! However, I do have a family to look after…” (Sends John a stern look) “You returned to Genesis to find that the Rouge terrorists had launched a few unsuccessful attempts to kill some people on their list. How did you feel about that?”

Marco: (Nodding his head thoughtfully.) “I was appalled, but not surprised, nor did I feel panicked. I had more than one chat with Setter Caine who convinced me that I had to tap into the warrior spirit within me. I also had a lot of time on Earth to think about my life, who I am, and the resources I have around me. So… I came back here ready to do battle – to fight for our way of life and for the people I love.”

Nonnie: (Looks into his eyes intently) “I see. Just how far are you willing to go?”

Marco: “The Rouge aren’t going to go quietly. They’re fanatics and won’t listen to reason. They believe they have a holy mission ordained by the Gods. I command the Alpha Corps. These highly trained men and women might need backup from the Marine Corps and the Navy. These warriors and their officers who advise me will be all the weaponry I’ll need to eliminate them.”

Nonnie: “Do you mean you’ll kill them, Marco?”

Marco: “We’ll hunt them down to arrest them. When they resist, they’ll be treated with extreme prejudice.”

Nonnie: (Sits quietly and reflects on his words and his tone.)“Will you be able to live with that, Marco? To order the deaths of people? Do you think it will change you?”

Marco: “My dear, I’ve already changed. This isn’t a political debate – the Rouge have declared war on this administration and made threats against the woman I love. Because of my position, I have a duty to protect this government and the citizens at large. I will carry out that duty to the best of my ability, even if it means that at the end of the day, I have blood on my hands.”

(Marco pauses, then resumes eye contact with Nonnie.)

“Tell me, Nonnie. Will my actions make me less of a man?”

Nonnie: “Marco, I don’t know what that course of action will do to you. I believe you are a caring and sensitive man, and I’d hate to see that destroyed by this “war”, as you put it. I admire the personal traits of strength and personal resolve – and you have both. If anyone can fight this war and emerge with their humanity intact, it’s Marco Rossini. I will pray for you.”

(Nonnie rises and extends her arms to Marco. He steps to her and gives her a hug.)

Marco: “Thank you so much for visiting today – both of you. I’m grateful for your love and support.”

Nonnie: “Fine! You and Marie can name your first daughter after me! Just kidding! Okay, Dr John, I need to get home to my babies, and my reality shows – in that order!”

(After bidding them farewell, Marco sees them to the door and is startled when they vanish. Within seconds they reappear in Nonnie’s office.)

Nonnie: “John, I can’t believe we were gone all day – look at the time… whaaat? That clock must be wrong. It says only 45 minutes have passed!”

(She turns back to John, but he’s gone. She smiles and shakes her head)

“These Canadians… what am I going to do with that man?”

12. What Happened to Marco? #RRBC

Welcome to this twelfth episode in this unique series of interviews of some key players in Book One of The Genesis Saga: PASSION & STRUGGLE. Author, Nonnie Jules of the famed interviews, ‘Who’s On The Shelf With Nonnie Jules?’   has been teleported through space and time, courtesy of Author, John Fioravanti, to lend her formidable skills to this process.

Nonnie and John are sitting in the Campus Café on the University campus in Genesis city. A few minutes earlier, they witnessed the apparent abduction of Professor Marco Rossini from the café by two rough-looking men and a young woman. Understandably, Nonnie was outraged and worried about Marco. John convinced her to calm down and wait for the arrival of two other young women who were looking for the professor. 8. #RRBC: What was Divine Scepter Like?

Nonnie Jules is the founder and President of RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB, as well as interviewer of RRBC authors in the famed, “Who’s On The Shelf With Nonnie?” interviews. Her interviewing skills are legendary and she decided to accompany Author, John Fioravanti, through space and time to another galaxy 700 years into the future. Nonnie’s goal is to meet the key personalities on planet Genesis featured in Fioravanti’s series, The Genesis Saga, and utilize her formidable skills to find out something more about these characters. This scene is the eighth of many, which will follow.

Setting:   Nonnie and John follow their host, Professor Marco Rossini, back into the kitchen of his home on the University of Genesis City (UGC) campus. Marco finds an apron in a storage slider and hands it to Nonnie to put on. She reads the writing imprinted on the material and immediately lashes out at her host. 7. #RRBC: How Did the U.N. Take Over Space Travel?

Nonnie Jules is the founder and President of RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB, as well as interviewer of RRBC authors in the famed, “Who’s On The Shelf With Nonnie?” interviews. Her interviewing skills are legendary and she decided to accompany Author, John Fioravanti, through space and time to another galaxy 700 years into the future. Nonnie’s goal is to meet the key personalities on planet Genesis featured in Fioravanti’s series, The Genesis Saga, and utilize her formidable skills to find out something more about these characters. This scene is the seventh of many, which will follow.

Nonnie and John have followed their host, Professor Marco Rossini, back into his formal living room in his home on the UGC campus. They have settled back into their armchairs and look expectantly at Marco, who is about to explain to Nonnie how the UN was in a position to launch the mission into deep space to a planet they believed was habitable.
