HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, FIORA BOOKS!

Three years ago on this date, March 17th, Anne and I launched our Fiora Books website. What follows is the original post.The Fiora Books Logo

 

WATERLOO, ON – After a few months of intensive effort, Anne and John Fioravanti, co-founders of Fiora Books, are excited to announce the official launch of this new publishing company.

John has been an author with Iceberg Publishing since 2006 when Iceberg partner and author, Kenneth Tam, invited him to write an inspirational book about his years in the classroom. The book, A Personal Journey to the Heart of Teaching, was released by Iceberg in May of 2007, and then captured a bronze medal in the international IPPY Awards for excellence in May of 2008. Do What You Love – Don’t Settle… EVER!

Steve Jobs was not only one of the most successful people to impact the 20th and 21st centuries, but he was also the heart and soul of the multinational corporation, Apple Inc. I recall watching him presenting new Apple products on television, and what struck me each time, was that Steve Jobs was enjoying himself as he spoke. 2. #RRBC: She’s My Candidate for President!

Nonnie Jules is the founder and President of RAVE REVIEWS BOOK CLUB, as well as interviewer of RRBC authors in the famed, “Who’s On The Shelf With Nonnie?” interviews. Her interviewing skills are legendary and she decided to accompany Author, John Fioravanti, through space and time to another galaxy 700 years into the future. Nonnie’s goal is to meet the key personalities on planet Genesis featured in Fioravanti’s series, The Genesis Saga, and utilize her formidable skills to find out something more about these characters. This scene is the second of many, which will follow.

Detours Often Unplanned

“Are Your Students Better Off?”

While browsing a LinkedIn group for educators, the National Education Association, I came upon a provocative discussion that began with the question I just quoted above.

Herm Allen posted the discussion question to challenge teachers to reflect on the benefits students may have gained in their classrooms this year.

As I read through the short article, Mr. Allen was putting emphasis on the experiential component of a teacher’s classroom.

He linked the reader to another of his coaching articles, Experience Counts, where he spoke of his days as a student.

The thing that resonated with him the most was how a teacher made him feel as a student. That struck a chord with me, because there were a few teachers I had who made me feel worthwhile and inspired great admiration within me.

These were the folks who, quite unknowingly, helped me decide to dedicate thirty-five years of my life to educating students. Continue reading “Detours Often Unplanned”
