Background About Reflections:
Like many bloggers, I struggled to find my niche. One day I was inspired by Nonnie Jules, President and founder of Rave Reviews Book Club, in her daily inspirational emails to the members of the club’s governing board. She always began with an inspirational quote. Before long, I found myself responding to these with brief interpretations and reflections about how the quotes seemed to apply to me.
My responses were well received and I was encouraged to create blog posts around quotes that I found inspirational. I decided to proceed and named the blog series, My Inspiration. It wasn’t long before Nonnie Jules urged me to put together a book – a collection of fifty of these quotes and reflections.
I was gratified that some readers shared with me that they keep their copy of REFLECTIONS handy and select one each day to re-read and think about how it might apply to their own lives. For an author, it just doesn’t get any better than that!

Background Story:
Near the end of my teaching career, Kenneth Tam, a former student and friend, visited me at St. David Catholic Secondary School at the end of the school day. He and his parents had created Iceberg Publishing to publish his novels and those of his mother. Kenneth asked me to author an inspirational book for them about my career in the classroom. I felt honoured to be asked yet perplexed as to how to approach this project.
After some soul searching, I proposed that I write honestly about my journey in struggling to become the teacher I wanted to be when I decided to enter the profession. Thus, the project became autobiographical in nature as I talked about growing up and identifying the factors that led me to the momentous decision to teach. The story follows the ups and downs I experienced and reveals the demons that drove me on for thirty-five years.
After the book was launched, one of my colleagues shared with me that he thought the book was very personal – in a tone that expressed surprise and perhaps some disapproval. I smiled and pointed out that this was the purpose of the book and that’s why we inserted the word “personal” in the title.
Among my intended audiences were people thinking about entering the profession and those who were in preparatory studies, as well as rookie teachers. I hoped the book would give them the courage to pursue a great vocation. It wasn’t long before one of these people gave me her feedback.
I was walking along a hallway in our school heading for the Staff Room when I was stopped by a young lady who was supply teaching at our school that day. She had a copy of my book on top of the stack of books she carried in her arms in front of her. She thanked me profusely for writing the book and claimed that it was just what she needed to quell the panic she felt every day in the classroom. Then she hurried off to her next class. I felt so humbled by this experience. Even if no one else read this book, I could retire a happy man!

Marco is the right man to help lead the change, but as the professor soon discovers, the battle between Church and state is far from over, and both sides are willing to spill blood.

Background Story:
My former student and friend, Kenneth Tam, approached me not long after A Personal Journey to the Heart of Teaching was launched to write a series of novels inside his sci-fi series The Equations. I had no confidence that I could write a novel and scoffed at the idea. Unperturbed, Kenneth stated that I had no idea I could write an award-winning book – yet I did that.
With a great deal of trepidation, I began the task of fleshing out the civilization that had evolved over six centuries on Genesis. Kenneth’s books focused on intergalactic wars while mine would focus on life on Genesis with all of its passions and struggles. Gradually, once I was able to shake off the almost-paralyzing fear of the unknown, I began to develop more personal aspects of Kenneth’s characters and created some of my own. It took almost six years of drafts and re-writes to get Passion & Struggle published. By that time, I had left my friends at Iceberg Publishing and set off on my own to start my own company with my wife, Anne, which we called, FIORA BOOKS.
Anne, who has a degree in English, was my first editor in the process and I’ll never forget the excited look on her face when she looked up from the first draft manuscript and told me that it reads like a real novel. That’s all the encouragement I needed!

Background Story:
This book was originally part of Book One in the original draft. I was still with Iceberg Publishing at the time and Kenneth and his mother, Jacqui, were both editing my work. They were agreed that the draft should become two books. So Treachery & Triumph was born.
Not long after that, Iceberg decided to start publishing novellas, so I was asked to split both books into three novellas each. Not long after the novellas were drafted, I decided to launch Fiora Books. My first executive decision as CEO of Fiora Books was to scrap the novellas and recreate the two novels. These stories went through a few incarnations before they were published a year apart.
Book Three is being drafted now. Please stay tuned.
Yayyyyy, you! I love the new site! You did a great job! Kudos!
