Why Endure The Darkness?

“I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness because it shows me the stars.”

~ Og Mandino

The wording of this quote is interesting. Mr Mandino does not say, “I love the light…”, but rather, “I will love the light…” He’s speaking of an act of the will, a conscious decision to love the light, and, he gives his rationale – because it shows him the way. Hey! Look What’s Inside Of You!

“What lies behind you and what lies in front of you, pales in comparison to what lies inside of you.”

~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Emerson, a prominent 19th Century American essayist, lecturer, and poet was known for his promotion of the concept of individualism. I don’t know the context in which he wrote or spoke these words, so I will speak to them as they impacted me. Continue reading “Hey! Look What’s Inside Of You!”

And Where Is Your Happy?

“Happiness resides not in possessions, and not in gold, happiness dwells in the soul.”

~ Democritus

I wouldn’t be surprised if this advice has been given to every generation, worldwide, since antiquity. Democritus is not a modern thinker, but a Greek philosopher from Thrace, in northern Greece, in the 5th century B.C. He is hailed by many as the ancient “Father of Science”. His writings are well known and respected by academics internationally. Continue reading “And Where Is Your Happy?”

Use Your Head For More Than A Hat Rack!

“A brain is useless unless it is in constant think and learn mode.  God didn’t give you a brain for you to sit and ‘wish’ for things to happen, so use it for what it was intended, and get off your tush and make things happen.”

~ Nonnie Jules

RW - Aspire to Inspire

Of all her original quotes I have found on Nonnie’s blog site, this is one of my favourites! I have worked closely with Nonnie for about six months now, and these are words that she lives by. Nonnie Jules doesn’t abide laziness of any kind, but someone operating in a mindless way irks her the most. Continue reading “Use Your Head For More Than A Hat Rack!”

It’s Okay… Share Your Happy!

“Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”

~ Buddha

This well-known quote resonates with me in a powerful way, so I decided to explore the importance of applying it in our day-to-day living. It is a simple concept, yet we often have difficulty living this exhortation to share ourselves with the world. Continue reading “It’s Okay… Share Your Happy!”

Do You Face The Sunshine?

“Keep your face always toward the sunshine – and shadows will fall behind you.”

~ Walt Whitman

This is sage advice from this 19th Century American poet. I like the imagery of sunshine and shadows that he utilized. Not to be taken literally, Whitman is providing solid direction about living one’s life in the present, rather than in the unchangeable past. Continue reading “Do You Face The Sunshine?”
